Old Gold Standards of Excellence
The OFSE Old Gold Standards Program (OGSP) evaluates chapter effectiveness across five key areas—Academic Excellence, Campus & Community Impact, Membership Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Leadership Development. The program highlights strengths, identifies opportunities for growth, and celebrates chapter achievements while providing coaching and support for continued success.
Chapter Recognition Levels
Old Gold Chapter of Distinction
Awarded to chapters that exceed standard expectations. These organizations are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Wake Forest fraternity and sorority community.
Silver Chapter of Standard
Awarded to chapters that meet standard expectations. These organizations fulfill minimum requirements and are encouraged to aim for Old Gold Chapter of Distinction in the next academic year.
Bronze Chapter of Promise
Awarded to chapters that fall below standard expectations. These organizations receive additional coaching and support from OFSE staff with the goal of reaching at least Silver Chapter of Standard within the next academic year.
Unsatisfactory
Chapters that fail to meet standards are placed on probationary status, with required action plans and mandatory support.
Areas of Effectiveness
Academic Excellence
Measures how chapters support academic success. Evaluation includes the strength of academic support programs, participation in CLASS Office workshops, and chapter GPA compared to council, all-Greek, and all-student averages.
Old Gold Rating
- Develop and implement an academic support program that challenges members and potential members to strive for academic success, provides scholastic support, and recognizes both improvement and excellence in academic performance
- Host a workshop in collaboration with or sponsored by the CLASS Office
- Chapter falls above 1) council average, 2) all-Greek average, and 3) all-student average
Silver Rating
- Develop an academic support program that challenges members and potential members to strive for academic success, provides scholastic support, and recognizes both improvement or excellence in academic performance
- Attend a workshop or event in collaboration with or sponsored by the CLASS Office
- Chapter falls above two out of three areas between: 1) council average, 2) all-Greek average, and 3) all-student average
Bronze Rating
- Chapter submitted late or has a minimal academic support program that does not fully demonstrate that it challenges members and potential members to strive for academic success, provides scholastic support, and recognizes both improvement and excellence in academic performance
- Chapter has minimal attendance at a workshop in collaboration with or sponsored by the CLASS Office
- Chapter falls above one out of three areas between: 1) council average, 2) all-Greek average, and 3) all-student average
Unsatisfactory Rating
- Chapter does not have an academic support program that challenges members and potential members to strive for academic success, provides scholastic support, and recognizes both improvement and excellence in academic performance
- Chapter fails to host or attend a workshop in collaboration with or sponsored by the CLASS Office
- Chapter GPA falls below 2.500
Campus & Community Impact
Recognizes how chapters contribute to service, philanthropy, and campus life. Evaluation includes documented service hours and philanthropy dollars, participation in campus service opportunities and Wake traditions, and collaboration with both non-Greek organizations and chapters from other councils.
Old Gold Rating
- Chapter has submitted documented service hours and/or philanthropy dollars in The Link and reports in the top 25% of service hours and/or philanthropy dollars for their council
- Chapter participates in at least two campus service opportunities per semester
- Chapter participates in at least two Wake tradition programs
- Chapter hosts one program/event with a non-Greek affiliated organization on campus
- Chapter hosts one program/event with a chapter not in the same council
Silver Rating
- Chapter has submitted documented service hours and/or philanthropy dollars in The Link
- Chapter participates in at least one campus service opportunity per semester
- Chapter participates in at least one Wake tradition program
- Chapter attends one program/event with a non-Greek affiliated organization on campus
- Chapter attends one program/event with a chapter not in same council
Bronze Rating
- Chapter has submitted documented service hours and/or philanthropy dollars in The Link after the submission deadline
- Less than 10% of the chapter participates in at least two campus service opportunities per semester
- Less than 10% of the chapter participates in Wake tradition programs
- Less than 10% of the chapter participates in programs/events hosted by other organizations or chapters
Unsatisfactory Rating
- Chapter has not submitted documented service hours and/or philanthropy dollars in The Link
- Chapter has no documented participation in service projects
- Chapter fails to participate in Wake tradition programs
- Chapter fails to host or attend programming on campus
Membership Engagement
Evaluates how well chapters stay connected and organized through timely communication with OFSE. Chapters are measured on accurate roster submissions, new member education plans, updated officer/advisor information, and smooth officer transitions.
Old Gold Rating
- Rosters are submitted correctly and on time
- New Member Education plans are submitted correctly and on time
- Chapter officer and advisor information is updated each semester
- Transition documents are provided to OFSE staff.
Silver Rating
- Rosters are submitted correctly and on time, with a week grace period
- New Member Education plans are submitted correctly and on time, with a week grace period
- Chapter officer and advisor information is updated each semester
Bronze Rating
- Rosters are not submitted correctly and on time
- New Member Education plans are not submitted correctly and on time
- Chapter officer and advisor information is not updated each semester
Unsatisfactory Rating
- Rosters are not submitted
- New Member Education plans are not submitted
- Chapter officer and advisor information is not submitted
Health & Wellbeing
Evaluates how chapters support the safety and wellness of members. Chapters are assessed on participation in and hosting of prevention programs (e.g., hazing, Title IX, alcohol education, bystander intervention), safe-certification completion, and wellbeing programming addressing mental, emotional, or physical health.
Old Gold Rating
- Hosts at least two prevention programs that address one of the following areas: Hazing Prevention, Title IX, Safe, Bystander Intervention, or Alcohol & other Drugs (Must be hosted in collaboration with a coalition or office)
- At least 25% of chapter is safe-certified
- Hosts one wellbeing program that addresses at least one of the following areas: physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, or emotional wellbeing
Silver Rating
- Attends at least two prevention programs that address one of the following areas: Hazing Prevention, Title IX, Safe, Bystander Intervention, or Alcohol & other Drugs (Must be hosted by a coalition or office)
- At least 10% of chapter is safe-certified
- Hosts one wellbeing program that addresses at least one of the following areas: physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, or emotional wellbeing
Bronze Rating
- Rosters are not submitted correctly and on time
- New Member Education plans are not submitted correctly and on time
- Chapter officer and advisor information is not updated each semester
Unsatisfactory Rating
- Chapter has not attended or hosted prevention programs that address one of the following areas: Hazing Prevention, Title IX, Safe, Bystander Intervention, or Alcohol & other Drugs
- None of the chapter meets safe-certification
- Chapter issued conduct sanction
- Any open conduct case is an automatic rating of Unsatisfactory for this category until case is adjudicated
Leadership Development
Evaluates how chapters cultivate leadership skills and participation among members. Chapters are assessed on attendance at national and campus leadership conferences, involvement in programs hosted by offices under Leadership & Engagement, and representation on council executive boards
Old Gold Rating
- Have more than two representatives at a leadership conference, organizational conference, AFA, AFLV, UIFI, Leadershape, ACC Leadership, etc.
- Have more than two representatives at campus-based Leaders Summit
- Host at least two programs in collaboration with one of the offices under Leadership & Engagement: Fraternity & Sorority Engagement, Leadership Initiatives, Student Engagement, Civic & Community Engagement
- Have at least one officer represented on council executive board
Silver Rating
- Have at least two representatives at a leadership conference- organizational conference, AFA, AFLV, UIFI, Leadershape, ACC Leadership, etc.
- Have at least two representatives at campus-based Leaders Summit
- At least 10% of chapter attends at least one program hosted by one of the offices under Leadership & Engagement: Fraternity & Sorority Engagement, Leadership Initiatives, Student Engagement, Civic & Community Engagement
