Alpha Phi Alpha
Founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African American men. Its seven founders, known as the “Jewels,” created a brotherhood based on scholarship, fellowship, good character, and service to humanity. The fraternity has a long history of leadership in civil rights and community impact, with members including Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, and W.E.B. DuBois.
The Xi Eta Chapter at Wake Forest University was chartered on May 4, 1979, continuing Alpha Phi Alpha’s mission to support academic excellence, leadership, and service.
