Chi Upsilon Sigma was founded on April 29, 1980, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, by seven Latina students seeking to create a supportive sisterhood and promote leadership within the Latino community. The sorority was established to educate, elevate, and empower women, fostering cultural, educational, political, and social awareness while opening opportunities for service and community engagement.

Guided by the values of leadership, sisterhood, service, and character, Chi Upsilon Sigma emphasizes lifelong commitment to personal growth, community impact, and the preservation of Latino culture. The organization continues to inspire women to unite, support one another, and make a meaningful difference on campus and beyond.
